GE Vernova announced an investment of approximately USD 16 million to expand its manufacturing and engineering operations in India. The expansion includes a new manufacturing line at its existing Chennai (Pallavaram) facility and the establishment of a new engineering and test lab in Noida. The developments are aimed at enhancing the company’s capacity to support high voltage grid infrastructure technologies such as High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS).

According to the company, the Chennai facility will produce Line Commutated Converter (LCC) HVDC valves and Voltage Source Converter (VSC) Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) valves. These components are essential for long-distance power transmission and integrating renewable energy into the grid. The Noida facility will house an engineering and test lab to support design, validation, and control systems testing. The Noida lab is expected to be operational by the end of 2025, with the Chennai manufacturing line scheduled for early 2027.

“India continues to be a critical part of our global strategy—both for our customers and as a manufacturing hub. GE Vernova’s Electrification equipment backlog has more than tripled over the past year—driven by strong demand for transformers, switchgear, and grid technologies including HVDC and FACTS. These new expansions are aimed at enhancing our capabilities in the region, helping reduce supply chain dependencies, and allowing us to deliver faster, smarter solutions to customers in India and around the world,” said Johan Bindele, VP of Grid Systems Integration at GE Vernova.

“With energy demand rising and more renewables being added to the grid, the need for strong, smart, and flexible infrastructure has never been greater. Through this investment, we are strengthening our ability to deliver technologies that help utilities move more power, with fewer losses, over longer distances—and do it more sustainably,” said Sandeep Zanzaria, Managing Director and CEO of GE Vernova T&D India Limited.

The investment forms part of GE Vernova’s broader capex plan of approximately USD 4 billion through 2028 and aligns with the company’s strategy to localize production and support regional and global grid stability and electrification needs.

GE Vernova T&D India Ltd is the listed entity of GE Vernova’s Electrification segment in India. The company operates five manufacturing facilities across the country and supplies a range of power transmission and distribution equipment, including transformers, switchgear, automation systems, and HVDC and FACTS technologies.
