Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has received an order from Polestar Maritime Limited for the construction of two 70-ton bollard pull tugs. The order, classified as “Notable” by CSL, is valued between INR 1 billion and INR 2.5 billion. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in May 2027 and September 2027.

The tugs will be built jointly by CSL and its wholly owned subsidiary, Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (Udupi-CSL), under a work-share arrangement at CSL’s yard in Cochin. Each vessel will be powered by two main engines rated at 1,838 kW and equipped with 2.7-meter propellers supplied by Niigata IHI Power Systems Co. Ltd., Japan.

The design is based on Robert Allan Limited’s tugboat models, which are approved under India’s Standard Tug Design and Specifications (ASTDS) framework. CSL and Udupi-CSL have previously delivered four tugs under this design and are currently constructing 18 tugs, including 12 green tugs, under similar contracts.

“CSL is very happy to receive a repeat order from Polestar and is also committed to transform the industry by introducing the Battery Electric Tugs through the upcoming Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP) announced by the Govt. of India.” said Mr. Madhu Nair, the Chairman and Managing Director of CSL.

Cochin Shipyard Limited, a government-owned enterprise, is headquartered in Kochi, India. It undertakes shipbuilding and ship repair activities for both domestic and international clients.
