Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd. has announced the completion of its new wagon manufacturing facility in Kharagpur, West Bengal. The plant, developed through the company’s step-down subsidiary Ramsarup Industries Ltd., is now ready for operations.
The facility has been set up with a planned annual capacity of 4,800 wagons, which will be reached in two phases. The first phase will support production of up to 2,400 wagons per year, with the second phase set to double this capacity to 4,800 wagons annually. The plant is equipped to manufacture various types of wagons, including flat, open, box, hopper covered, tank, and specialized designs.
Shyam Metalics has incorporated rooftop solar installations and a “Uni-Flow” manufacturing layout at the site, aiming to optimize energy efficiency and streamline production processes. The project is also expected to contribute to regional employment through both direct and indirect jobs.
The facility is supported by the company’s integrated infrastructure, which includes an operational railway siding, captive power units, and internal supply access to structural and stainless steel from its primary steel plant.
“This foray into wagon manufacturing reinforces the company’s vision of advancing India’s industrial self-reliance through high-impact, future-ready infrastructure,” said Sheetij Agarwal, Director of Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd.
Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd. is engaged in metal production with operations across steel, ferro alloys, and power generation. The company operates multiple manufacturing facilities and has in-house logistics and energy resources to support its activities.
