The Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI) inaugurated a Certified Reference Materials (CRM) Facility during its 64th Foundation Day celebration. The facility was formally opened by H.D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel.

As part of the event, CMTI outlined its major activities during the financial year 2023–24. Over the year, the institute developed 16 machines and products, including a 10-ton planetary mixing machine delivered to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It also collaborated with 13 industries under the Ministry of Heavy Industries’ Industry Accelerator Program and installed second-line hydraulic pump test rigs at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s Light Combat Aircraft Division.

CMTI deployed Industry 4.0 solutions for several clients, including Bharat Electronics Limited and Tata Power. It also provided 1,712 testing, inspection, and calibration services to 590 customers during the year.

The institute received six awards, including recognition from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for Technology Innovation and for initiatives supporting Women in STEM. It was granted four patents and filed seven additional applications.

Looking ahead, CMTI is focusing on capability development in battery manufacturing, semiconductor equipment, CNC controllers, and other advanced manufacturing technologies.

Based in Bengaluru, CMTI is a research and development organization under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India. It specializes in advanced manufacturing technologies and works closely with industrial and scientific organizations across the country.
