Nidec, a manufacturer of motors and generators, has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility with an investment of INR 6 billion at the Dharwad-Beluru Industrial Area in Hubballi, Karnataka. The site, named The Orchard Hub, marks a significant expansion of the company’s operations in India. The plant is expected to support sectors including electric vehicles, data centres, renewable energy, battery storage, and general industries.

The facility will produce heavy-duty machines with capacities of 2 MW, 3 MW, and 4 MW. These products will serve both domestic and export markets, including the United States, the UAE, and Europe. According to the company, the technology used in this facility is sourced from Japan and France.

“We are proud to establish our new state-of-the-art facility in Hubli, Karnataka as a testament to our long-term commitment to the Indian market. This campus is not merely a physical space, it represents the future of Nidec in India: a hub for innovation, collaboration, and excellence. This marks an exciting time for all of us and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated teams and to the Government of Karnataka for their unwavering support. We look forward to working together as we continue contributing to the sustainable development of the region,” stated Girish Kulkarni, President and Country Managing Director, Nidec Motion and Energy India.

“India’s robust economic growth presents exceptional opportunities for forward-thinking companies, and Nidec is proud to be an integral part of this momentum. Under the visionary leadership of our founder, Mr. Shigenobu Nagamori, we continue to expand our presence across the country, his visionary leadership has been instrumental in bringing the Orchard Hub to life, demonstrating Nidec’s dedication to shaping India’s growth story,” said Michael Briggs, President Nidec Motion & Energy.

Initial operations at the site have created 800 direct jobs, with projections to increase the workforce to approximately 3,000 once the plant reaches full operational capacity. The company has also received an allocation of 20 acres for its battery solutions division.

Installation of plant machinery and equipment is underway, and production is scheduled to commence in the coming months.

In related news, Embraco, a provider of refrigeration technology for the residential and commercial cold chain and part of Nidec Global Appliance (GA), has announced the production of its compressors in India, with the establishment of a manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra.

This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for refrigeration solutions in India and increase GA’s regional presence. The facility will manufacture Embraco compressors for both residential and commercial refrigeration, alongside electronic components. With a built-up area of 55,000 square meters and an investment exceeding USD 120 million, the factory is designed for an annual production capacity of 6 million units and is expected to begin operations in the second half of 2026. Once fully operational, it is projected to create between 750 and 1,000 direct jobs.

The new plant will focus on producing four Embraco compressor series that incorporate the latest advancements in refrigeration technology. These include the fixed-speed models ES and EL, which are designed for residential refrigeration and feature compact design, energy efficiency, low noise levels, reliability, and the use of natural refrigerants. The facility will also manufacture the variable-speed models FMS and VLT—FMS being intended for residential refrigeration appliances and VLT for commercial refrigeration. In addition, the plant will produce inverters, the electronic components that regulate compressor speed based on cooling demand, thereby improving overall energy efficiency and operational performance.

The ES and FMS lines are noted for their global market presence and high production volumes. “By establishing a footprint in India, we aim to support the domestic refrigeration sector and strengthen the local supply chain. At the same time, this facility has the potential to become our regional export hub, further reinforcing the Nidec GA leadership in the global refrigeration industry,” said Alberto Casnati, President of Nidec Global Appliance.

Founded in Japan, Nidec Corporation manufactures motors, generators, and related products for applications across industries such as automotive, appliances, commercial, and industrial machinery. The company’s India operations are managed by Nidec Motion and Energy India.
