Shimadzu Corporation has announced plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The plant, to be operated by Shimadzu Manufacturing India Private Limited (SMI), is scheduled to begin operations in spring 2027.
The facility will occupy a 40,000-square-meter site with a 5,500-square-meter building and will initially employ 50 people in its first year. According to the company, the plant will produce precision analytical instruments, including liquid chromatographs (LC), gas chromatographs (GC), ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometers (UV), and analytical mass spectrometers (MS). This will mark the first time Shimadzu’s mass spectrometers are manufactured in the Asia-Pacific region.
Shimadzu currently operates two other manufacturing facilities in the region: one in Malaysia, specializing in LC, GC, and UV instruments, and another in the Philippines, focused on electronic balances and printed circuit board assembly. The new Indian facility is expected to enhance the company’s supply chain capabilities and broaden its manufacturing scope to include medical and industrial equipment in the future.
The facility’s establishment aligns with India’s projected economic growth, with the country anticipated to have the world’s third-largest GDP by 2027. Shimadzu identified key growth sectors in India, including healthcare, green technology, and materials industries, as strategic areas for its business expansion.
Shimadzu Manufacturing India Private Limited is set to be formally established by the end of March 2025. Shimadzu (Asia Pacific), established in 1989, serves as the regional headquarters for Shimadzu Corporation, overseeing operations in India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam with a workforce of over 500 employees. The company maintains a presence in more than 18 countries across South Asia and ASEAN, focusing on analytical and measuring instruments as well as medical systems.
