Siemens has launched MACHINUM, a digitalization portfolio aimed at enhancing efficiency and sustainability in the machine tool sector, at IMTEX 2025. According to a press release from Siemens, MACHINUM is part of the Siemens Xcelerator platform and offers solutions that could potentially reduce machine setup times by up to 20% and energy consumption by up to 18%.
The launch comes as the Indian machine tool industry experiences a shift toward advanced technologies, driven by increased investment in high-end manufacturing catering to both local and export markets. The demand for precision, customization, and technology integration in manufacturing processes has contributed to this transformation.
MACHINUM integrates software and IoT-enabled hardware to support scalable digital transformation in manufacturing and design. Siemens also introduced the upgraded 5th generation SINUMERIK 828D at the event, which includes the SINUMERIK Run MyVirtual Machine feature. This tool uses a digital twin of the machine to allow validation and optimization of NC programs without interrupting production, potentially reducing setup times on physical machines by up to 20%. Additional enhancements include improved cybersecurity compliance, faster program buffering, and high-resolution displays for better operator visibility.
The company highlighted its focus on energy-efficient hardware and digital tools designed to support sustainability in machine tool manufacturing. These solutions are intended to help manufacturers lower costs, reduce resource consumption, and improve productivity.
The announcement aligns with Siemens’ broader strategy to promote digital transformation and sustainability in industrial ecosystems.
