RENK Group AG, a supplier of drive solutions for military and civil applications, has inaugurated a new production facility in Shoolagiri, Tamil Nadu, as part of its strategy to expand local manufacturing capabilities for the defence and industrial sectors. The facility is intended to serve domestic projects and support global demand through exports, aligning with India’s localisation requirements.

The plant will produce gear units for cement mills, gearboxes for power and new energy applications, and specialized couplings. It will also manufacture components for export, including couplings for international deployment. RENK’s expansion aims to improve delivery timelines, reduce costs, and increase the level of local production.

“India represents a strategic cornerstone of our global operations, particularly in the defense sector. We are here for more than just producing for the Indian market – we are here to grow with this country and shape the tremendous opportunities ahead together with our partners on the ground,” said Praveen Mohan, CEO of RENK Gears Private Ltd. (RENK India).

RENK supplies drive systems and has previously supported Indian defence projects including the Arjun Main Battle Tank and the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. The company is also pursuing future defence initiatives, such as India’s Light Tank program and forthcoming naval projects.

Headquartered in Augsburg, Germany, RENK Group AG manufactures propulsion systems for military vehicles, naval platforms, commercial marine operations, and energy-sector applications. In fiscal year 2024, the company reported revenue of EUR 1.14 billion. RENK has been listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since February 2024 and was added to the MDAX index in March 2025.
