LAT Aerospace, founded by Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal and former Zomato COO Surobhi Das, has launched the development of an indigenous gas turbine engine in India. The company has set up a research and development facility in Bengaluru and is currently recruiting engineers with experience in turbine, rotor, and control system design.

The project aims to develop lightweight, efficient engines suitable for short take-off and landing (STOL) regional aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and other regional connectivity platforms. LAT Aerospace intends to build the full engine technology stack domestically to reduce reliance on imported propulsion systems.

The Bengaluru centre includes infrastructure for combustion research, turbomachinery, thermal systems, and materials development. According to Goyal, the company’s engineers are encouraged to engage directly in problem-solving and hardware design with minimal bureaucratic oversight. He noted that the team is prioritizing rapid design-to-test cycles.

LAT Aerospace has clarified that it operates independently from Goyal’s other business ventures and is inviting qualified professionals worldwide to join the initiative.

Based in India, LAT Aerospace is a private aerospace company focused on the local development of aircraft and propulsion technologies through engineering-led R&D.
