NRB Bearings Limited has commenced an INR 2 billion expansion programme to modernise its manufacturing ecosystem and increase capacity in line with its goal of achieving revenue of over INR 25 billion by 2031. The investment will enhance automation, R&D, and product range across plants in India and Thailand while supporting diversification into industrial, aerospace, and defence applications.

The company’s capex will be implemented over two years, expanding production of needle, cylindrical thrust, taper, spherical, and ball bearings. The plan also includes upgrading infrastructure for automation, robotics, and IoT-based manufacturing to improve precision, efficiency, and sustainability.

“As we embark on our INR 200 crore expansion plan with the first phase of our roadmap to reach our aspirational vision of INR 2,500 crore turnover by 2031, our focus is on shaping the next phase of NRB’s growth and technological evolution,” said Harshbeena Zaveri, Managing Director. “This strategy encompasses forging global joint venture partnerships to co-develop advanced solutions for next-generation industrial applications, pursuing selective acquisitions, building infrastructure and modernising our manufacturing ecosystem to drive capacity expansion, automation, and enhancing the mass-customisation capabilities which are a huge competitive advantage as we continue to expand our global footprint.”

“We are focused on shaping the next phase of NRB’s growth and technological evolution,” said Harshbeena Zaveri. “Our accelerator will be high market share and deeper penetration with an expanding range of products, while aggressively entering the industrial friction solutions space targeting high-growth and under-penetrated segments.”

The company’s 35,000-square-foot Innovation Centre anchors its new product development, including smart and sensor-based bearings, one-way clutch bearings, and advanced greases for hybrid and EV platforms. NRB has also acquired an 8.5 percent stake in Ampere Private Limited to source up to 15 megawatts of solar power, supporting its renewable energy goals.

NRB derives about 30 percent of sales from commercial vehicles, 28 percent from two- and three-wheelers, 16 percent from passenger vehicles, and 11 percent from industrial applications, ensuring balanced exposure across sectors. Exports account for roughly 25 percent of revenue, with supplies to OEMs in 43 countries.
