Jindal Steel Limited announced plans on 29 December 2025 to double its structural steel manufacturing capacity at its Raigarh facility to 2.4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by mid-2028, from the current 1.2 MTPA. The expansion is aimed at strengthening domestic availability of heavy and ultra-heavy structural steel sections used in infrastructure, energy, and high-rise construction projects.

The expansion will involve commissioning a new dedicated structural steel mill along with upstream and downstream technology upgrades. The additional capacity is expected to support growing demand from sectors such as infrastructure, refineries, power, renewable energy, transmission, and high-rise buildings, while reducing reliance on imported heavy structural steel sections.

As part of the upgrade, the Raigarh facility will expand its product capability to manufacture larger and heavier parallel flange sections. The company currently produces sections ranging from 100 millimetres to 900 millimetres in depth, with weights of up to 333 kilograms per metre. Following completion of the expansion, the mill will be capable of producing sections with depths of up to 1,100 millimetres and weights of up to 1,500 kilograms per metre, which the company said would be the largest parallel flange sections manufactured in India.

The company stated that the enhanced manufacturing capabilities would enable faster project execution and improved design efficiency for large and complex infrastructure and energy projects. It also said the expansion would help reduce dependence on imported heavy structural steel sections for critical applications.

“Doubling our structural steel capacity at Raigarh is a strategic step towards building long-term domestic capability for large and complex projects,” said Subrat Panda, Head – Structures and CSB at Jindal Steel. “With the ability to manufacture the largest parallel flange sections in India, we are enabling faster execution, improved design efficiency, and reduced dependence on imports for critical infrastructure and energy applications,” Panda said.

The company also said it continues to promote the use of high-strength structural steel to support efficient construction, optimised material usage, and improved sustainability across steel-intensive sectors.

Jindal Steel Limited is an integrated steel producer with manufacturing facilities in Angul, Raigarh, and Patratu, operating on a mine-to-metal model. The company serves sectors including infrastructure, construction, and manufacturing, and has an investment footprint exceeding USD 12 billion.
