Francois Compressors India Private Limited, the Indian subsidiary of Belgium-based AF Compressors (Ateliers François S.A.), has commenced construction of an extension to its manufacturing facility in Pune, marked by a stone laying ceremony held recently. The project forms part of the company’s long-term growth roadmap through 2030 and is intended to strengthen operational capabilities at its existing site in Maharashtra.
The factory extension is being developed at the company’s current facility in Pirangut, on the outskirts of Pune. The additional infrastructure is intended to improve safety standards, reinforce quality processes, and enhance the company’s ability to deliver value to customers across its served industrial segments.
Established in India in 2006, Francois Compressors India focuses primarily on the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottling industry, supplying high-pressure oil-free air compressors used in blow moulding applications for plastic bottles. The company also serves the food, beverage, and brewing industries, where oil-free compressed air is required to prevent contamination during production.
The company specialises in reciprocating piston compressors designed for heavy industrial use, with an emphasis on durability and energy efficiency. Its high-pressure oil-free compressors typically operate in the 15 to 40 bar range and are deployed mainly in PET bottle manufacturing. Francois Compressors India also supplies low-pressure, two-stage oil-free compressors operating at 8 to 10 bar for general industrial, food processing, and brewery applications.
From a localisation perspective, the Indian operation focuses on system integration and fabrication of skid-mounted compressor packages. While the core compressor block is sourced from the parent group’s manufacturing base in Liège, Belgium, the Pune team fabricates base frames, mounts motors, installs control panels, and integrates piping and cooling systems to deliver fully assembled units. A significant portion of heavy fabricated structures and auxiliary components is sourced domestically, supporting local supplier ecosystems while aligning the facility’s operations with “Make in India” manufacturing norms.
The Pune facility is configured to support end-to-end assembly and validation. In addition to mechanical assembly, the plant undertakes functional testing of completed machines to verify operating pressure, airflow stability, and air purity parameters before shipment. Dedicated test beds allow compressors to be run under load to confirm compliance with applicable ISO air quality and performance standards prior to delivery to bottling and industrial customers.
In addition to manufacturing, the company maintains a spare parts inventory in Pune to support its installed base across the region. It also provides maintenance and servicing support for its compressors, which are designed for long operational lifecycles that can extend over several decades.
The company reported revenue of approximately INR 1.18 billion in India as of 31 March 2025. The facility extension is expected to support the company’s medium- to long-term expansion plans as it continues to supply oil-free compressed air solutions to industrial customers.
