Chara Technologies Private Limited has inaugurated a new controller manufacturing facility in Peenya, Bengaluru, consolidating its motor and controller production under one roof. The facility, inaugurated on 11 February 2026, has an annual capacity of 25,000 controllers in the 7 kW to 30 kW range and forms part of the company’s plan to scale total production capacity from 20,000 units to 100,000 units annually.
The consolidation enables unified production of motors and controllers, tighter electrical-mechanical alignment at the manufacturing level, faster cross-functional feedback between production teams, and strengthened quality governance across the powertrain stack. By manufacturing both components in-house, the company aims to optimise system performance and strengthen supply chain control as it expands operations.
The expansion follows a Series A funding round in October 2025, in which Chara raised USD 6 million (approximately INR 520 million) from Arkam Ventures, Kalaari Capital, Exfinity, and IIMA Ventures. The capital was intended to provide runway for establishing the Bengaluru facility and to support scaling of its rare-earth-free technology into larger vehicle segments, including four-wheelers and heavy industrial applications, as well as expanding its footprint in Europe and North America.
Prior to this, the company raised USD 4.75 million in a Pre-Series A round in January 2023 from Exfinity Venture Partners, BIG Capital, and Log9 Materials. Between 2019 and 2022, it secured approximately USD 1.15 million through seed funding and grants from IIMA Ventures, Kalaari Capital, and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). In total, Chara has raised approximately USD 11.9 million, or roughly INR 1 billion, across five funding rounds.
With the latest funding, the company is targeting a five-fold increase in annual production capacity to 100,000 units. It has outlined a goal of achieving six-fold revenue growth in the 2025–26 financial year and plans to deploy 40,000 motors by 2027.
The company was founded in November 2019 by Bhaktha Keshavachar, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer; Ravi Prasad Sharma, Co-founder and Chief Motor Designer; and Mahalingam Koushik, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer. Chara develops electric vehicle (EV) powertrains based on Synchronous Reluctance (SynRM) architecture, eliminating the use of permanent magnets and rare-earth materials. The company employs more than 75 people and serves applications ranging from two-wheelers to heavy industrial equipment.
Chara Technologies Private Limited is a Bengaluru-based deep-technology company focused on rare-earth-free electric motors and integrated controller systems for electric mobility and industrial applications.
