Marine Jet Power (MJP) India inaugurated a waterjet production and testing facility in Goa on 13 February 2026. The facility was inaugurated by Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Paramesh Sivamani and has been established under a Manufacturing and Transfer of Technology framework.
The facility enables domestic production and indigenous testing of waterjet propulsion systems and positions India among three countries, alongside the United States and South Korea, to host such an installation. It is intended to support the domestic supply chain and serve as a regional hub for South Asia and adjoining regions.
ICG currently operates more than 100 MJP waterjet propulsion systems onboard its vessels, with 42 additional systems planned for ships under construction. The new facility is expected to support operational sustenance and strengthen indigenous maintenance capabilities for these systems.
The inauguration follows the establishment of MJP India in February 2024 as part of Marine Jet Power’s localisation strategy in the Indian defence sector. MJP India was formed to advance indigenous manufacturing and increase local sourcing under a phased manufacturing plan.
Jonas Tegström, CEO of Marine Jet Power and MPS Gill, Managing Director of MJP India reaffirmed the company’s commitment to increasing indigenous content in waterjet systems.
The company stated that it aims to achieve 53 percent local manufacturing and sourcing of components by 2026. The plan includes skill enhancement initiatives for local engineers and technicians and commitments to ensure the reliability and availability of critical components for waterjet-enabled vessels and amphibious vehicle fleets.
Marine Jet Power said hundreds of its waterjet systems, including PodJet systems for amphibious vehicles, are already installed in India. The company also indicated that the India operation is intended to supply spare parts, waterjets and PodJets to domestic and regional markets.
During the Goa visit, the Director General of ICG also reviewed progress on six indigenously built Air Cushion Vehicles at Chowgule & Company Pvt Ltd. The programme represents India’s first indigenous Air Cushion Vehicle initiative with approximately 50 percent indigenous content, and delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for May 2026.
Marine Jet Power is headquartered in Uppsala, Sweden, and has been manufacturing waterjet propulsion systems since 1987 for applications including military craft, passenger vessels, workboats and amphibious vehicles. MJP India is a joint venture between Marine Jet Power and Corporate Alliances, focused on local manufacturing and indigenisation of waterjet propulsion systems in India.
