Swedish defence company Saab has successfully delivered its AT4 anti-armour weapon system to the Indian Armed Forces. The AT4CS AST variant, designed for use in confined spaces such as buildings and bunkers, is a single-shot, man-portable, unguided rocket launcher. This delivery follows a contract awarded to Saab in 2022 for the system, which will be used by both the Indian Army and Air Force.

As part of its ongoing expansion in India, Saab is also working on local production of its Carl-Gustaf anti-tank weapon system. The company is establishing a manufacturing facility in Haryana, with plans to begin production of the Carl-Gustaf M4 model by early 2026, pending approval of an industrial license. This project will be the first in the defence sector to operate under a 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) arrangement, reinforcing Saab’s commitment to the “Make in India” initiative.

In addition to the Carl-Gustaf and AT4 systems, Saab is preparing to support local defence capabilities through further manufacturing and collaboration with Indian suppliers. The company’s Haryana facility will produce both the Carl-Gustaf M4 for Indian forces and components for global users of the system.

Saab has been active in India’s defence sector, with ongoing discussions around further collaborations and technology transfers, particularly for its Gripen E fighter aircraft. The company is also showcasing a variety of other products, such as the NLAW light anti-tank weapon and r-TWR deployable system, which are designed to enhance operational flexibility and defence capabilities.

Saab is a global defence and security company with operations spanning aerospace, land, and naval systems. The company is focused on innovation and advanced technologies for military and civil applications. In India, Saab continues to expand its presence through local manufacturing and partnerships with Indian defence industries.
