Saab will exhibit a range of defense technologies at Aero India 2025, taking place in Bengaluru from February 10 to 14. The company will present a full-scale replica of its Gripen E fighter jet along with a cockpit simulator. Other showcased systems will include the Carl-Gustaf M4, AT4CS AST, Next-Generation Light Anti-Tank Weapon (NLAW), Ground Combat Indoor Gunnery Trainer, AUV62-MR autonomous underwater vehicle, Integrated Defence Aids Suite (IDAS), and Land Electronic Defence System (LEDS).

The Carl-Gustaf M4, which will be produced in India at Saab’s manufacturing facility in Jhajjar, Haryana, is a man-portable multi-role weapon system used by the Indian Army since 1976. The facility will manufacture units for the Indian Armed Forces and components for global customers. Saab is also engaging with Indian companies to expand local sourcing and align with the Indian government’s domestic defense production initiatives.

Saab’s Gripen E is under consideration for the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) program. Kent-Åke Molin, Head of the Gripen India campaign, stated that the aircraft offers advanced sensors, countermeasure systems, and human-machine collaboration features. Saab has proposed an industrial program that includes local production of aircraft components, engine assembly, and the establishment of a Gripen Design Centre in Bengaluru for avionics and software development.

Saab’s technology transfer offer includes the transfer of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities, as well as potential support for India’s indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programs. The company has also indicated an interest in positioning India as an export hub for Gripen E aircraft and related systems.
