Sund Birsta India Private Limited has inaugurated a new workshop facility in Pune to support localised servicing of steel coil handling and binding equipment. The expansion marks the company’s transition from a sales-focused presence established in 2024 to a sales and service-oriented unit aimed at supporting domestic steel producers with engineering, spare parts, and refurbishment capabilities.
The newly inaugurated Pune workshop is designed to stock spare parts and undertake refurbishment and rebuild services. The facility is intended to reduce mean time to repair for Indian steel mills by enabling local servicing rather than relying on parts or technicians dispatched from Sweden, supporting lifecycle service for installed systems.
Sund Birsta is a member of the Danieli Group, an Italian supplier of plants and equipment for the metal industry, and its Pune operations are co-located with Danieli Centro Combustion India. Fabian Ohlund, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Sund Birsta AB, and Srinivas Yadlapalli, Managing Director of Sund Birsta India, oversee operations.
Sund Birsta’s product portfolio includes coil handling systems under the SUNDCO concept, comprising vertical and horizontal conveyor systems, as well as compacting and binding equipment such as the PCH-2 and the all-electric KNSe binding units. In 2024–25, the company introduced the Sund Robot Tag Marker, an automated system that uses a standardised industrial robot to tag wire rod coils, and delivered a handling and packaging solution to SSAB in Virsbo involving steel and polyethylene terephthalate strapping heads.
Last month, Bhilai Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Limited signed a contract with Sund Birsta for the supply of a coil handling system incorporating compacting and steel strapping technology. The modularised Sundco system includes a coil compactor for pressing and strapping equipped with the company’s patented SBHX5 seal technology strapping head. The project is expected to improve cycle time, enable variable and higher press force, optimise energy consumption, and provide an advanced human-machine interface for control and maintenance, contributing to increased availability and productivity.
