MKS Instruments Inc. has expanded its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru with the inauguration of new engineering laboratories for its Vacuum Solutions Division (VSD) and Photonics Solutions Division (PSD). The facilities are intended to support development and validation activities for technologies used in semiconductor manufacturing and precision industrial processes.
The laboratories will focus on engineering work related to vacuum systems, plasma applications, gas analysis, and optical components. These technologies are used in semiconductor production and other advanced manufacturing applications that require controlled environments and high-precision measurement.
The company said the expansion forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen engineering and product development capabilities in India. The Bengaluru GCC supports global research and development activities and contributes to innovation initiatives across the company’s semiconductor equipment and advanced manufacturing technology portfolio.
Senior officials from the Karnataka Information Technology and Biotechnology Department attended the inauguration, reflecting the state government’s focus on attracting semiconductor-related engineering and research operations. In an official statement, N. Manjula, Secretary of Karnataka’s IT/BT Department, said the expansion of high-end engineering activities in the state reflects confidence in Karnataka’s engineering talent base and innovation ecosystem.
MKS Instruments executives said the Bengaluru centre plays a role in the company’s worldwide engineering network. “The new laboratories significantly strengthen our development capabilities while enabling greater collaboration with India’s technical talent,” said Eric Taranto, Executive Vice President of the Vacuum Solutions Division.
Naveen Goudar, General Manager for India at MKS Instruments, said the GCC will continue to contribute to innovation efforts linked to customer requirements and semiconductor industry development.
To mark the expansion, the company also hosted a leadership discussion titled “From Lab to Fab: India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem Dialogue,” which brought together representatives from industry, academia, and policy organisations to discuss collaboration opportunities in India’s semiconductor sector.
MKS Instruments Inc. provides technology solutions used in semiconductor manufacturing and advanced industrial processes, including vacuum systems, photonics, plasma control, gas analysis, and optical technologies.
