SiCSem Private Ltd, a company specializing in semiconductor materials for power electronics, has initiated the construction of a compound semiconductor manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar. The project, valued at Rs 2,500 crore, was marked by a virtual ground-breaking ceremony during the Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave-2025.
The facility, to be located at Infovally-2, will cover 14.32 acres and will integrate the full semiconductor manufacturing process. This includes silicon carbide crystal ingot growth, wafer slicing and polishing, and fabrication, with the aim of producing power devices used in sectors such as electric vehicles, energy storage, fast chargers, green energy, industrial tools, data centers, and consumer appliances.
The proposal for the facility was approved during the 34th meeting of the High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA). This marks the second major semiconductor project in Odisha, following the ground-breaking of a silicon carbide manufacturing facility by RIR Power Electronics in September 2024 at EMC Park, Infovally.
The event was attended by Union Minister for Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, State Electronics & IT Minister Mukesh Mahaling, and SiCSem Director Ranjit Pendurthi.
