Bata India, a footwear manufacturer and retailer, has installed a new DESMA-PUDIP (Polyurethane Direct Injection Process) machine at its Bata Nagar factory in Kolkata. The investment aims to increase production capacity, automate footwear manufacturing processes, and support the company’s domestic supply chain.

The DESMA-PUDIP system features automated direct soling, robotic spray and roughening arms, and auto-enabled mold processing. Manufactured by DESMA, the equipment is designed to enhance process control and enable consistent product output with minimal manual intervention.

According to the company, the installation is intended to strengthen its production of industrial and safety footwear, as well as to modernise its manufacturing operations. “The commercialisation of the DESMA-PUDIP machine marks a bold stride in our journey to modernise and scale our manufacturing capabilities It reaffirms our commitment to ‘Make in India,’ to innovation, and to creating long-term value for our customers, and association with the state of West Bengal,” said Gunjan Shah, MD & CEO, Bata India.

The inauguration event was attended by officials from the Government of West Bengal and representatives from the Bureau of Indian Standards, along with senior Bata India executives.

Bata India is a footwear manufacturer and retailer operating across multiple segments including fashion, school, industrial, and safety footwear. The Bata Nagar factory in Kolkata serves as its flagship production unit in the country.
