Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Germany-based Reintjes GmbH to collaborate on marine propulsion systems. As part of the agreement, Reintjes will supply propulsion gear trains for integration with selected engines on ships built by GRSE.

According to the company, the partnership will support the deployment of propulsion gearboxes in vessels for both defence and commercial applications in domestic and export markets.

Reintjes GmbH, headquartered in Hameln, Germany, designs and manufactures marine gearboxes used across various types of naval and commercial vessels.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd, based in Kolkata, is a Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence. Originally established in 1884 as a repair workshop, it was taken over by the Government of India in 1960. The company has delivered over 800 platforms, including 112 warships for the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and international clients. GRSE’s capabilities include shipbuilding, ship repair, marine engine production, and the manufacture of steel bridges and other marine equipment. The shipyard has the infrastructure to build up to 28 ships simultaneously across four distinct shipbuilding facilities.
