Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE), a government-owned defence shipyard, has signed a series of agreements in Norway aimed at expanding its international shipbuilding and offshore capabilities. The company announced the signing of one Memorandum of Intent (MoI) and two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on 4 June 2025 as part of an official delegation visit.
GRSE signed a MoI with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler und Reederei GmbH & Co. KG, a German company, for the construction of four follow-on 7,500 DWT multi-purpose vessels. These vessels will be a continuation of the eight currently under construction at GRSE’s Kolkata shipyard. The new vessels are expected to incorporate hybrid propulsion systems and adhere to updated cybersecurity standards. A firm contract for these ships is anticipated by 31 August 2025.
As part of its strategy to enter the offshore platform and vessel construction segment, GRSE also signed a MoU with Aries Marine, a Dubai-based engineering and design firm. The agreement is intended to support GRSE in identifying and executing offshore platform orders designed by Aries and constructed by GRSE.
A separate MoU was signed with an unnamed global engine manufacturer on the same day.
