Sandvik, a Sweden-based engineering group, is expanding its Intelligent Manufacturing development site in Pune, India, into an innovation hub aimed at strengthening research and development in digital manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and customer support. The facility, which hosts the company’s CAD/CAM software brands Cimatron, Mastercam and SigmaNEST, is expected to be fully operational as an innovation hub in early 2026.
The expansion includes recruitment of additional engineers and developers as well as a redesign of workspaces. “The transformation into an innovation hub reflects our strong commitment to future-proofing our business and accelerating technology development. Our goal is to foster cross-functional collaboration, strengthen R&D capabilities, and drive a shift in AI-infused customer experience to simplify manufacturing,” said Magnus Malmström, Chief Technology Officer for Intelligent Manufacturing.
Anil Ghegade has been appointed managing director for the new hub. He said, “With the scaling up of operations, Sandvik also aims to accelerate commercial growth in the local market and better support the company’s global technology roadmap.” Pune was chosen for the project due to its engineering talent pool, proximity to academic institutions, and established technology ecosystem.
The hub will function as a central competence and resource centre for Sandvik’s Intelligent Manufacturing business units globally. Ghegade added, “It’s not just about a new space – it’s about enabling our teams to work more closely, creatively, and efficiently together.”
Sandvik is a Sweden-headquartered engineering group with operations in mining, rock processing, metal cutting, and digital manufacturing. Its product portfolio includes tools, equipment, software, and services for industrial customers worldwide.
