Aerolloy Technologies Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of PTC Industries Limited engaged in the manufacture of titanium and superalloy materials for aerospace and defence applications, has installed a 600-tonne-per-year plasma arc melting furnace at its Strategic Manufacturing Technology Centre in Lucknow. The installation adds a new melting capability for titanium aerospace alloys and expands the company’s advanced materials processing infrastructure at the site.

The installed system is a plasma arc melting, also referred to as plasma cold hearth melting, furnace. Unlike conventional vacuum melting routes, the technology uses plasma torches and an inert gas environment, such as helium or argon, to melt titanium and superalloys. This process enables control over alloy chemistry and is used to reduce high-density inclusions in materials intended for critical aerospace applications.

The company said the furnace allows efficient remelting and recycling of internally generated metallic scrap and returns from casting and machining operations. This is expected to improve material yield and reduce dependence on fresh raw material inputs. The facility also enables the production of specialised titanium alloys in smaller batch sizes, supporting programmes that require customised material specifications.

The plasma arc melting furnace complements Aerolloy’s existing vacuum arc remelting and vacuum induction melting infrastructure at the Lucknow facility recognised as the Strategic Manufacturing Technology Centre. Together, these melting routes expand the range of alloy development and processing options available at the site.

All electrical, mechanical, and control panel installations have been completed, and the furnace is ready for trials and subsequent commissioning.

The furnace has been supplied by Retech Systems LLC, a United States-based manufacturer that is part of the SECO/WARWICK Group. Retech specialises in plasma cold hearth melting systems used for titanium and superalloy processing. Retech Systems LLC does not have an independent corporate office in India and operates through the SECO/WARWICK Group’s regional structure. SECO/WARWICK India Private Limited, based in Pune, provides sales and service support for group companies in the country, while complex plasma melting systems are manufactured at facilities in the United States or Poland and supplied to customers internationally.

PTC Industries Limited manufactures precision metal components for critical and high-performance applications. Through its wholly owned subsidiary Aerolloy Technologies Limited, the company produces titanium and superalloy materials and castings for aerospace and defence applications, supplying customers in domestic and international markets.
