Soprema India Private Limited has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility and headquarters in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, marking the establishment of a greenfield unit dedicated to geocomposite products. The plant is designed to serve as the company’s central hub for its geocomposite range and is aligned with the government’s “Make in India” initiative.

The Ahmedabad facility spans more than 11,000 square metres, with the first phase covering 1,750 square metres. It is engineered for an annual production capacity of 6 million square metres of material. The plant features a fully automated production line for Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCM) and Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCL).

“The state-of-the-art, fully automated production line for bentonite mats GCCM and GCL opens new opportunities for growth and perfectly complements our geomembranes PVCPrimatess,” said Arkadiusz Gruszyński, Commercial Director in SEBAN by SOPREMA.

The manufacturing line uses advanced needle-punching technology and heavy-duty material handling systems to meet international standards, including CE certification requirements. The facility is capable of producing rolls up to 5.9 metres wide, which reduces the number of seams required during installation in civil engineering applications.

The plant’s product portfolio includes GCCM, used for ditch lining, slope protection and remediation works, and GCL, which incorporates bentonite clay to create hydraulic barriers for landfills, ponds and canals. The new line complements the company’s PVC Primatess geomembranes, which are used for waterproofing in tunnels, basements and hydraulic structures.

Located in Gujarat, the facility has access to Mundra and Nhava Sheva ports, supporting exports to Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Local manufacturing is expected to reduce lead times and logistics costs for infrastructure projects in India, while enabling product customisation for specific soil and climatic conditions.

The Ahmedabad plant forms part of the wider Asia-Pacific strategy of the Soprema Group. The group reported consolidated turnover of approximately EUR 4.82 billion in recent years and operates more than 100 factories and over 20 research and development centres globally.

Soprema India Private Limited is the Indian subsidiary of the Soprema Group, a manufacturer of waterproofing, insulation and geosynthetic solutions for building and civil engineering applications.
