Webasto, a global automotive supplier focused on roof systems and vehicle electrification solutions, announced on 26 February 2026 that it will establish its third manufacturing plant in India, located in the Delhi region. The facility is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2026 and is expected to add annual capacity of approximately 500,000 units, supporting rising demand for sunroof systems in the country.
The new plant will be situated between Manesar and Kharkhoda in North India and will serve the northern automotive corridor. With the addition of this facility to its existing plants in Pune and Chennai, the company’s total local production capacity in India will increase to around two million units per year.
The company said the expansion is driven by continued growth in local demand for sunroof-equipped vehicles. The expanded footprint is intended to strengthen local production and supply capabilities and improve responsiveness to customers, while reinforcing its local-for-local production strategy.
“With our presence in the third automotive cluster, we are able to support customers with greater speed — enabling us to deliver solutions tailored to India’s diverse market and create meaningful employment opportunities across the country,” said Vikas Prasad, President Webasto India.
Webasto stated that since 2019 it has invested more than 110 million euros in the expansion of its Indian business, with a total of 174 million euros planned by 2030. The new manufacturing plant forms part of this investment programme aimed at strengthening its operations in the Indian market.
“Our investment in a third Indian production site underscores how essential the market has become to Webasto’s global operations. India is playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of mobility, and we are proud to be part of this momentum,” said Joerg Buchheim, Chief Executive Officer of Webasto Group.
Earlier this year, Joerg Buchheim was part of a German business delegation accompanying German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during an official visit to India from January 11 to 13, underscoring the strategic importance of India for German industry and for Webasto’s global growth ambitions.
As a systems partner to the mobility industry, Webasto supplies openable and fixed roof systems as well as electric high-voltage heaters, batteries and thermal management solutions. In 2024, the group generated sales of around 4.3 billion euros and employed around 15,300 people at more than 50 locations. The company was founded in 1901 and is headquartered in Stockdorf near Munich, Germany.
