Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (RCF) has approved a ₹1,000.27 crore contract with Larsen & Toubro Ltd for the construction of a new complex fertilizer plant at its Thal facility in Maharashtra. The plant, with a production capacity of 1,200 metric tons per day (MTPD) on a di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) basis, will be constructed on a lump-sum turn-key (LSTK) basis. The project is expected to be completed within 27 months.
This announcement follows an earlier contract awarded by RCF in July to Topsoe, valued at ₹514.6 crore, for the modernization of its ammonia plant at the same location. The Topsoe contract includes a basic engineering design package and specialized equipment aimed at improving energy efficiency, with a project duration of 36 months.
RCF is a state-owned enterprise, with 75% of its shares held by the Indian government. The remaining 25% is distributed among entities such as LIC, mutual funds, UTI, financial institutions, and the public. The company operates fertilizer and chemical manufacturing facilities at Trombay and Thal, producing a range of nitrogenous, phosphatic, and potassic fertilizers, along with industrial chemicals.
