The South Central Railway (SCR) has committed approximately ₹83,000 crore to infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing rail services and connectivity across Telangana and Karnataka. The progress of these initiatives was reviewed recently by Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy and 10 Members of Parliament within the SCR jurisdiction, with a focus on improvements for both passenger and freight services.
A significant portion of this investment involves the redevelopment of 40 railway stations in Telangana under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, at an estimated cost of ₹2,635 crore. Another key project underway is the Ghatkesar-Yadadri Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) extension, aimed at improving urban connectivity in the region.
During the meeting, Members of Parliament discussed additional infrastructure needs, which include new railway lines, the launch of new train services, increased train stoppages, and enhanced passenger facilities. Proposals were also made for the construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) to streamline traffic flow.
SCR representatives outlined their recent achievements in passenger services, freight handling, the development of goods sheds, and the deployment of special trains to accommodate regional demand. The review also covered final location surveys for 15 additional infrastructure projects, which are intended to further improve rail connectivity and services across the SCR’s operational area.
The investment initiatives align with SCR’s objective to expand and modernize its infrastructure, with expected outcomes including strengthened regional mobility and support for industrial transport needs.
