ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) India has initiated the production of its patented Zinc-Aluminium-Magnesium-coated steel product, Optigal, in India as part of its broader expansion efforts. This development comes amid a ₹60,000 crore investment in the first phase of expansion at the company’s Hazira facility.
The product, which was previously available only in global markets, debuted in Karnataka. AM/NS India stated that the launch aims to address market demand for roofing, fencing, and cladding applications. Optigal currently accounts for 250,000 tonnes of the company’s annual 700,000 tonnes of color-coated steel production. Plans are underway to increase this capacity to 1.1–1.2 million tonnes within the next two to three years.
The company is also scaling up its overall crude steel production capacity from 9 million tonnes to 15 million tonnes by next year, aligning with its strategy to focus on value-added and sustainable steel products.
