Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited (HFCL), a private sector telecom company, has launched a new defence equipment manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, designed to enhance domestic production of critical defense technologies. The facility is equipped to manufacture up to 5,000 Thermal Weapon Sights, 250,000 Electronic Fuzes, and 1,000 units each of High Capacity Radio Relay (HCRR) systems and Ground Surveillance Radars annually.
The facility includes specialized clean rooms rated at 10,000 Class and 100,000 Class for the production of Thermal Imaging Core and Thermal Weapon Sights. HFCL highlighted that these capabilities are intended to meet the requirements of India’s armed forces and contribute to defense exports.
The products to be manufactured include:
- Thermal Weapon Sights: Designed for use with small arms such as rifles and rocket launchers, these sights offer high-resolution imaging and compliance with military standards.
- Electronic Fuzes: Covering Percussion, Proximity, and Time Fuzes, these are programmable and include advanced safety features.
- High Capacity Radio Relay Systems: Supporting tactical communications, these systems offer secure, high-speed data transfer with features like adaptive power control and frequency hopping.
- Surveillance Radars: Compact radars using Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) technology, capable of detecting moving and crawling targets for border security and counter-drone applications.
The facility’s launch was attended by key defense and research figures, including G. Satheesh Reddy, former Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D.
