India and Sweden marked a milestone in their joint efforts toward environmental sustainability at the second India-Sweden Sustainability Day, held in Mumbai on December 13, 2024. The event, organized by Team Sweden in India, brought together representatives from government institutions, corporations, and academia to discuss strategies for industrial decarbonization and sustainable practices.

The initiative is part of ongoing collaborations under programs like the India-Sweden Industry Transition Partnership and the India-Sweden Green Hydrogen Cluster. Over 20 partnerships and collaborations were highlighted, with a focus on leveraging the Swedish “Triple Helix” model that integrates academia, industry, and government to accelerate decarbonization.

A key session, titled “Breaking Barriers: Innovative Approaches to Sustainability in High-Emission Sectors,” featured companies such as Atlas Copco, Tata Power, Hindustan Petroleum, and Mahindra Group. Another panel, “Impact: Unlocking a Sustainable Future Driven by India-Sweden Collaboration,” showcased successful projects involving firms like Volvo Group and Kalyani Steel.

During the event, R. K. Goyal, Managing Director of Kalyani Steels, discussed the integration of KALYANI FeRRESTA Green Steel into the supply chain of Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo. This collaboration aligns with ongoing efforts to support partners in achieving their carbon neutrality goals.

Sweden’s industrial sector, which has significantly reduced emissions in energy-intensive segments, aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. The country’s expertise in clean technologies aligns with India’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

The discussions emphasized international cooperation in adopting sustainable practices, with both countries aiming to set global benchmarks in environmental responsibility.
