The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance technological capabilities in India’s maritime sector. The agreement, signed on January 25, 2025, at an event hosted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), aims to modernize maritime administration through technological collaboration.

The MoU outlines key areas of cooperation, including the digitalization and automation of maritime processes, data analytics, predictive modeling, cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, and research and development in maritime technologies. The initiative will also support maritime education and training programs.

The agreement was signed by Shyam Jagannathan, Director General of Shipping, and E. Magesh, Director General of C-DAC, in the presence of senior officials from DGS, C-DAC, and MeitY.

According to the press release, the partnership seeks to leverage C-DAC’s expertise in high-performance computing, blockchain technology, and cybersecurity to drive innovation in the maritime sector. It marks a step towards modernizing India’s maritime administration by integrating advanced technologies and fostering research and development efforts.

This collaboration aligns with broader efforts to build a sustainable and technologically advanced maritime ecosystem in India.
