Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is close to completing a Rs 2,000 crore data centre in Sriperumbudur, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, part of a phased plan to reach 90 MW of capacity within five years. Initial testing of the 12 MW facility is underway, and L&T expects to scale it to 30 MW in the near term. The project, which spans 10.27 acres, is anticipated to generate around 1,100 jobs—600 direct and 500 indirect—according to information from an L&T press release.
This data centre, designed as a hyperscale facility, will offer multi-cloud cybersecurity, digital transformation, and application integration services. Located near Chennai, it will leverage the city’s robust international fiber-optic connectivity to ensure a reliable network infrastructure. The Tamil Nadu government, as part of an agreement with L&T, is committed to providing uninterrupted power and additional infrastructure support.
Construction of the data centre complex is underway, with the first of its two buildings featuring five floors plus a ground and mezzanine level. The second building has a similar structure, alongside a separate DG Stack building with a basement, ground, and upper floor. The entire construction area spans approximately 8,79,206 square feet. Completion of this phased project is targeted for 2026.
Beyond this facility, L&T plans additional data centres in Mahape, Navi Mumbai, and Whitefield, Bangalore, with a smaller 2 MW centre in Panvel also set for commissioning by the end of this quarter.
