BMW India Foundation, in collaboration with Smile Foundation, has launched a STEM learning initiative aimed at providing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education to students in Delhi NCR. The initiative will engage approximately 2,500 students annually across 25 schools in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram.
The project involves setting up STEM laboratories in five government-aided schools and 20 community schools in low-income areas. Additionally, a ‘STEM on Wheels’ mobile lab will provide access to students in smaller community schools. The mobile lab is equipped with learning kits, robotic models, digital tools, and concept demonstration apparatus. It is also powered by a 1,500-watt solar panel for sustainable operations.
According to BMW Group India President and CEO Vikram Pawah, the initiative is designed to enhance students’ creativity and problem-solving skills. The program includes hands-on learning experiences, workshops, an annual science fair, and an innovation challenge. Teachers will also receive training to support STEM instruction.
The initiative aligns with India’s National Education Policy, which emphasizes STEM education. It aims to encourage interest in these fields from an early age and prepare students for future career opportunities.
BMW India Foundation has also partnered with UNICEF to expand STEM education initiatives in India, with a goal of reaching 100,000 children across four states.
