Grundfos Group’s Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (G-AME) division recently conducted a visit to key manufacturing, research, and academic institutions in Bengaluru and Chennai. The visit focused on assessing developments in Industry 4.0, digital transformation, automation, and sustainable manufacturing.
The delegation, which included Mette Lindberg Bregendahl, Head of Group AME Manufacturing Partnerships at Grundfos, observed how Indian manufacturers are incorporating automation, artificial intelligence, and digital solutions to enhance efficiency. The team also reviewed advancements in electric vehicle and battery manufacturing, as well as the adoption of cost-effective automation technologies. Discussions with industry representatives highlighted ongoing efforts in workforce upskilling, supply chain resilience, and academia-industry collaboration for industrial innovation.
According to The Hindu Business Line, Grundfos India is increasing its localisation efforts, with 40 per cent of its production now taking place in India. The company, which currently has 95 distributors, aims to increase local production by a few percentage points each year, targeting 50 per cent localisation in the near future. Grundfos operates two manufacturing plants in Ahmedabad and Chennai, which serve both the Indian market and export components to other regions.
To address global supply chain risks, Grundfos is expanding its manufacturing footprint beyond Europe, where it currently has 17 plants. The company has faced disruptions due to geopolitical issues, including delays caused by the Red Sea conflict. While the situation has improved, supply chain risks remain a concern, prompting the company to explore new locations for expansion.
