Hanwha Aerospace has signed a contract valued at USD 253 million with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to supply components for 100 K9 Vajra-T self-propelled howitzers. The agreement, announced on April 3, expands the manufacturing cooperation between the two companies for defence production in India.

This is the second contract involving the K9 Vajra-T, following an earlier deal in 2017 for 100 units. According to the company’s press release, the new agreement aims to increase the level of local production from over 50 percent in the first program to approximately 60 percent.

The contract was signed at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in New Delhi. Present at the signing were Hanwha Aerospace CEO Son Jae-il, Korean ambassador to India Lee Sung-ho, and Arun Ramchandani, Senior Vice President at L&T.

“This follow-up order reflects the deepening defense partnership between Korea and India,” said Son Jae-il. “We will continue to be a trusted, reliable partner for India’s defense capabilities in the years ahead, supporting India’s vision for defense manufacturing self-reliance.”

Hanwha Aerospace indicated that it is exploring further defence manufacturing opportunities in India, including in air defence systems and aerospace technologies. The company stated that it views the K9 Vajra-T program as a base for expanding industrial collaboration in the region.
