Dixon Technologies has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a laptop manufacturing facility in Oragadam, near Chennai. The project, involving an investment of approximately INR 10 billion, will manufacture laptops and all-in-one PCs for HP Inc.
The facility is expected to generate over 5,000 new jobs, according to information released by Dixon Technologies. The agreement was signed in the presence of state officials, including Chief Minister M K Stalin and Industries Minister TRB Rajaa.
The new plant will be set up in Kancheepuram district and is part of a broader strategy by Tamil Nadu to expand its electronics manufacturing sector. The state’s 2024–25 Economic Survey reported economic growth of 9.69% and highlighted significant investment activity between 2021 and 2025, with 895 MoUs signed, committing investments worth INR 10.14 trillion and projecting the creation of over 3.2 million jobs.
“This facility is expected to create over 5,000 new jobs — a massive win for Tamil Nadu’s youth and our continued efforts to drive industrial growth,” said TRB Rajaa. He also stated, “Under the visionary leadership of Honourable Chief Minister MK Stalin, we are building a USD 100 billion electronics manufacturing ecosystem — and every factory we launch is a step closer to that dream.”
The MoU was signed with Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state’s investment promotion agency, and supports Tamil Nadu’s broader economic target of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030.
