Wistron Corporation has partnered with Shapoorji Pallonji for the construction of a laptop manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, according to a Financial Express report. The project is part of a INR 15 billion investment by Wistron through its subsidiary ICT Service Management Solutions and is expected to begin operations by January 2026.

The construction contract is valued at approximately USD 30 million. The facility will be built on a 32-acre land parcel allotted by the Karnataka government at the Hi-Tech Defence & Aerospace Park in Devanahalli. The plant is projected to create employment for around 3,000 people and will focus on contract manufacturing of laptops for global brands, with over 50% of the output intended for export.

Initial capital outlay for the plant was set at USD 40 million in October 2023, but this was revised to around USD 50 million in February 2024, according to company disclosures. Construction is expected to begin soon.

In addition to manufacturing, the facility will also handle warranty repairs, inventory management, and logistics for Wistron’s laptop operations in India.

The project follows Wistron’s October 2023 exit from iPhone assembly in India. That exit was marked by the USD 131 million sale of its Karnataka-based Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing (India) unit to Tata Electronics. Despite the divestment, Wistron continues to operate in India through its subsidiaries: ICT Service Management Solutions, Smartiply India, and Wistron Automotive Electronics (India).
