Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd. (MEIL) has received a contract worth INR 128 billion from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) for the construction of two 700 megawatt electric (MWe) nuclear reactors at Kaiga in Karnataka. The project covers engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for Kaiga Units 5 and 6.

According to the company, this is its first major contract in the nuclear energy sector. The project was awarded through the Quality-cum-Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) method. MEIL was selected following a competitive bidding process.

The order was formally handed over at NPCIL’s headquarters in Mumbai to Ch. P. Subbaiah, Director (Projects) at MEIL, and his team. “This project is a significant milestone for us, and we are committed to delivering it with the highest standards of safety and quality,” said Subbaiah.

MEIL has previously undertaken large-scale infrastructure and energy projects across India and other countries. The company stated that it would mobilize its resources and technical expertise for the timely execution of the nuclear reactor units.
