Rosatom, a Russian state-owned nuclear energy company, has confirmed that it is in discussions with India on new nuclear power projects, including proposals for floating nuclear power plants and advanced reactor technologies. The company said these talks also cover potential cooperation in emerging technology fields such as quantum research.
Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, stated that the proposal to India involves the construction of small floating nuclear power plants aimed at supplying areas with limited access to energy. He added that India has been invited to participate in fourth-generation nuclear technologies, including fast neutron reactors and closed fuel cycles. He further stated that the company is also discussing the possibility of Indian participation in energy projects located in northern Russia.
Rosatom’s discussions with India extend beyond nuclear energy to areas such as quantum technologies, framed within existing multilateral cooperation platforms including BRICS.
