Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), in collaboration with Camdir Toyota and the Department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, has launched its 68th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) at Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Roing in Arunachal Pradesh. The facility includes a newly remodelled workshop and modern classrooms aimed at training students in automotive service technologies.
The year-long T-TEP program will offer technical training for final-year ITI and diploma students in the Mechanic Motor Vehicle and Diesel Mechanic trades. The initiative integrates classroom instruction with on-the-job training (OJT) at Toyota dealerships. The first batch at ITI Roing comprises 20 students, mentored by two instructors.
In addition to the technical program, Toyota also introduced the STAR Scholarship Program at ITI Roing. This initiative provides up to INR 51,000 per student annually to support hostel fees, educational expenses, and family support for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Three students have been selected as STAR Scholars in the first batch.
The Roing facility features equipment and training aids including simulators and components, with a focus on Toyota’s hybrid vehicle technology. Camdir Toyota is a co-sponsor of both the training and scholarship programs.
According to the company, over 13,000 students have been trained under T-TEP nationwide, with more than 70% reported to have found placements in the automotive sector.
Commissioner of Skill Development, Saugat Biswas, stated that the department plans to expand similar programs to other ITIs and is working with companies such as Tata, L&T, Honda, and NHPC for future skilling collaborations. He also announced plans to send ITI principals and faculty to Toyota’s Bangalore plant for capacity building.
Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “The launch of the T-TEP facility at ITI Roing marks another meaningful step in that direction. This initiative is not just about automotive skills; it’s about building aspirations, enabling self-reliance, and preparing young minds for a future shaped by innovation and mobility.”
Teli Tada, Dealership Principal of Camdir Toyota, commented, “Through this initiative, we aim to bridge that gap by nurturing practical skills and opening pathways for meaningful employment.”
The Government ITI Roing, established in 1971, is the oldest technical institute in Arunachal Pradesh and operates under the Department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.
