Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is increasing its manufacturing capacity in Karnataka with the establishment of a third plant, adding an annual production capability of 100,000 units and generating 2,000 new jobs. The investment, announced in November 2023, is part of TKM’s broader expansion in the state, where it has operated for over 25 years.

The new plant is expected to support the company’s localization efforts, with 90% of key models such as the Innova and Fortuner sourced domestically and 92% of steel used in production coming from within India. TKM’s existing operations include an e-drive unit at Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts, which exports components to Japan and other international markets.

TKM’s total investment in Karnataka stands at ₹16,000 crore, with an additional ₹4,000 crore currently under execution. The company has also focused on workforce development, expanding the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) to train 1,200 students, including 600 female trainees. It has collaborated with 49 industrial training institutes (ITIs), training 2,975 students so far, with plans to expand to 88 institutes.

At the Invest Karnataka 2025 Global Investors Meet (GIM), where TKM executives are participating, the Karnataka government awarded the company an investment certificate in recognition of its contribution to the state’s industrial growth. The company is also showcasing its green manufacturing initiatives, hybrid and electric vehicle technologies, and skill development programs at the event.

TKM’s manufacturing facility in Bidadi operates on 100% renewable energy, with 89.3% of its water demand met through rainwater harvesting and recycling. Its waste management efforts include 96.4% waste recycling.

The new plant reinforces Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s long-term manufacturing strategy in Karnataka, supporting both increased production and workforce development in the state’s automotive sector.
