Balu Forge Industries Limited has been expanding its manufacturing capabilities over the past few years through the acquisition of new forging and machining equipment. In 2024, the company acquired a 16-ton and 10-ton forging hydraulic hammer, as well as an 8000-ton forging press, increasing the company’s forging capacity to 72,000 tons per annum. Additionally, its total forging capacity is reported at 100,000 tons per annum, with further expansion in progress.

The company has also enhanced its precision machining capabilities with advanced 7-axis and 11-axis machines, also acquired in 2024. These machines are aimed at improving productivity and producing complex geometries with high precision. The current machining capacity stands at 45,000 tons per annum, with further expansion planned.

The Belgaum-based firm operates four manufacturing units, including a 46-acre greenfield facility near Aequs SEZ in Hattargi Village, Karnataka. Balu Forge supplies finished and semi-finished components to a variety of sectors such as defence, automotive, railways, aerospace, oil and gas, and agriculture. The defence division includes an automated shell production line with an annual capacity of up to 360,000 shells, along with multiple presses and induction heating systems for component manufacturing.

According to the company, a significant portion of capital investments over the next decade will be allocated to defence production, including plans for joint ventures and technology partnerships. A dedicated unit for ammunition and advanced defence systems is planned, along with a research and development campus in Belgaum focused on developing defence technologies.
