Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd, a producer of silicon carbide wafers, has reported significant business developments following a GBP 10 million equity investment from Archean Chemical Industries (ACIL) in late 2024. The company is expanding its licensing and consulting activities and supporting new silicon carbide (SiC) manufacturing initiatives in Asia and Europe.

According to Clas-SiC, ACIL was the first Indian company to invest in a SiC MOSFET production facility. Through its subsidiary SiCSem Private Limited, which focuses on compound semiconductors, ACIL has signed additional agreements in the SiC space. The company also plans to establish a SiC manufacturing facility in Odisha, India, within the next 24 to 36 months, with the aim of serving both domestic and international markets.

Clas-SiC’s first multi-million GBP Licensing, Royalty and Consulting (LR&C) agreement, signed in 2022 with a Chinese-based integrated device manufacturer (IDM), is reportedly progressing well. The deal is designed to accelerate the IDM’s silicon carbide design and manufacturing capabilities.

In 2025, Clas-SiC has entered into another LR&C agreement, not yet publicly disclosed, to support the creation of a new SiC production facility in mainland Europe. The project will result in the first in-country wide bandgap (WBG) wafer fabrication site in that region.

Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd, founded in 2017 and based in Lochgelly, Scotland, operates the UK’s only commercial silicon carbide wafer fabrication facility. It specializes in rapid prototyping and low-volume manufacturing for early-stage power semiconductor designs.
