Hindalco Industries Ltd has announced the acquisition of AluChem Companies, Inc., a US‑based producer of specialty alumina, for an enterprise value of USD 125 million. The deal will be executed via Aditya Holdings LLC, a step‑down wholly owned subsidiary of Hindalco.

This move gives Hindalco full ownership of AluChem and strengthens its North American footprint, adding three manufacturing facilities in Ohio and Arkansas with a combined annual production capacity of 60,000 tpa.

AluChem specialises in ultra‑low soda calcined and tabular alumina, crucial for precision ceramics and high‑temperature industrial applications. Hindalco said the acquisition will accelerate its foray into advanced alumina applications, notably in electric mobility, semiconductors, and industrial refractories.

“This acquisition marks a pivotal step in strengthening our capabilities in next‑generation alumina applications. AluChem’s advanced chemistry capabilities will significantly enhance our ability to serve these fast‑evolving markets,” said Satish Pai, Managing Director of Hindalco Industries.

Supported by this deal, Hindalco aims to expand its high‑margin, value‑added product portfolio. The company currently operates 500,000 tpa of specialty alumina capacity and plans to double that to 1 million tpa by FY 2030.

“The acquisition unlocks immediate synergies for Hindalco, including market access and product portfolio expansion,” commented Saurabh Khedekar, CEO of Hindalco’s Alumina Business.

“This partnership with Hindalco brings AluChem the ability and capital to scale up faster and build scale in North America. Their ability to leverage R&D capabilities and a talented workforce adds tremendous value to our innovation pipeline,” added Ronald P. Zapletal, founder of AluChem.

The transaction is expected to close in the upcoming quarter, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
