Kinetic Communications Limited, the electronics and EV arm of the Kinetic Group, has inaugurated a new automated production line for electric vehicle (EV) motor controller units at its facility in Pune. Inaugurated on July 1, 2025, the line has an installed capacity of 180,000 units per year under a two-shift system, with a current output of 300 units per shift.
The facility is designed to manufacture motor controller units (MCUs), which regulate interactions between EV batteries and motors. These units enable core functions such as acceleration, braking, hill-hold assist, cruise control, and regenerative braking. The production line uses Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and automated assembly systems integrated with Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems.
The SMT system is capable of placing up to 40,000 components per hour with integrated verification. Quality control measures include 3D solder paste inspection, automated optical inspection, and in-circuit testing. The line also features lead-free dual wave soldering, end-of-line testing, and pre-dispatch inspection processes.
Ajinkya Firodia, Vice Chairman of Kinetic Group, said the automated controller line brings data-driven manufacturing capabilities aligned with Industry 4.0 standards. Director Deepak Shikarpur noted that the facility showcases advanced automation in support of the Make in India initiative.
The company stated that the new production line is expected to enhance cost efficiency and targets zero parts-per-million defects. Backup systems have also been integrated to maintain delivery schedules in response to market demand fluctuations.
Kinetic Communications Limited, a part of the Kinetic Group, operates in the electronics manufacturing services and electric vehicle sectors in India. The company provides electronic solutions to original equipment manufacturers in the automotive industry and has reported annual revenues exceeding INR 1 billion.
