NIBE Limited has entered into a technology collaboration agreement with Elbit Systems Land, a division of Israel-based Elbit Systems Ltd., to manufacture and supply the Universal Rocket Launcher (SURYA) in India. The system is designed to engage targets with precision at ranges of up to 300 km and will be produced for both domestic and export markets.
The agreement includes the transfer of technology necessary for the domestic production of the SURYA system. According to NIBE, the launcher is an autonomous platform capable of deploying a variety of precision-guided and free-flight rockets. It incorporates modular Launch Pod Containers (LPCs), which are compatible with multiple missile types and original equipment manufacturers.
The system features a Launcher Mission Computer and onboard navigation, allowing the launcher to become combat-ready in under a minute. It supports automatic targeting and firing functions, with the ability to autonomously adjust azimuth and elevation based on mission data.
The SURYA’s dual LPC configuration enables it to carry a larger number of mission-ready rockets or missiles, potentially reducing reload times and simplifying logistics for artillery units.
According to the company, the partnership with Elbit Systems will expand NIBE Limited’s manufacturing capabilities and support the introduction of advanced rocket systems into India’s defense production ecosystem.
