Montra Electric has inaugurated a new electric heavy commercial vehicle (eHCV) manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana. The plant, spread across 255,000 sq. ft. with a built-up area of 150,000 sq. ft., has an initial production capacity of 6,000 vehicles annually, scalable to 7,500 units with additional shifts. The facility will produce multiple variants, including the Rhino EV series.

The plant integrates 60 percent robotics and Industry 4.0 digital manufacturing tools. It also houses an in-house battery assembly section with an annual capacity of 1.7 GWh. A notable feature of the site is an all-women, fully automated battery production unit, described by the company as the first of its kind in India. Automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and conveyor systems support production efficiency.

The facility includes testing infrastructure such as electrical and electronics labs, quality assurance labs, battery pack cyclers, roll and brake testers, wheel alignment systems, headlamp aiming, and shower testing facilities. It also incorporates R&D and prototype workshops to accelerate new product development.

Montra Electric stated that 74 percent of components, excluding imported cells, are sourced domestically. Sustainability measures at the site include battery recycling, waste management, and built-in EV charging infrastructure. The company also indicated plans to integrate renewable energy into future operations.

Montra Electric is the clean mobility brand of the Murugappa Group. The company focuses on manufacturing electric commercial vehicles with an emphasis on automation, localisation, and sustainability.
