Wabtec Corporation has commenced operations at its High Horse Power Engine Overhaul Plant in Rohtak, Haryana. The facility was set up in less than one year and is intended to support the long-term maintenance of 6000 HP and 4500 HP locomotives supplied to Indian Railways.
According to the company, the Rohtak plant will develop local capabilities for overhauling these engines and is expected to provide sustainable service support for locomotives manufactured at Wabtec’s Marhowra facility, adding to the company’s service infrastructure within India.
“This plant is an important step in positioning India on the global Locomotive service footprint,” stated Sandeep Selot, Managing Director & Vice President, South Asia and Southeast Asia.
Wabtec Corporation inaugurated the campus in Rohtak, Haryana, in May 2024, with an initial investment of USD 18 million (INR 1.50 billion). The company plans to invest an additional USD 10 million (INR 800 million) over the next few years.
Wabtec aims to increase its exports from India from the current USD 3–4 million to USD 30 million by 2027. The Rohtak facility is expected to contribute to this growth by serving clients in Europe and the United States.
The company has consolidated its previous plants in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, and Bahadurgarh, Haryana, into the Rohtak facility. Currently employing 300 people, Wabtec plans to add another 200 employees as the business expands.
