Ramsarup Industries Limited (RIL), part of Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, will commission a modern blast furnace and linear sinter plant as part of its INR 3.69 billion investment to enhance steel production capacity. The blast furnace’s stove heating has commenced, and the facility is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of November 2025. The sinter plant is scheduled to start commercial production in the third week of November 2025.
According to a press release issued by Shyam Metalics, the new blast furnace will add 0.45 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to the company’s steel output. The furnace, with a volume of 350 cubic metres, features three top-fired stoves, pulverised coal injection (PCI) technology, and a dry gas cleaning system. It also includes energy recovery systems such as a 2.5 MW Top Gas Pressure Recovery Turbine and an 8 MW blast furnace gas boiler, expected to achieve an additional 10 percent energy recovery.
The facility incorporates an evaporative cooling system designed to cut water and power use by about 20 percent compared to conventional methods, and its zero process water discharge setup supports sustainable operations. The sinter plant will convert iron ore fines into feedstock for the blast furnace, improving process efficiency and reducing production costs.
“The commissioning of our modern blast furnace and linear sinter plant is a proud milestone for Ramsarup Industries,” said Brij Bhushan Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited. “This advanced facility increases our production capacity while integrating energy-efficient and environmentally responsible technologies.”
The brownfield expansion employs high top pressure of 1.3 bar and high-temperature hot blast at 1,250°C, enabling greater coal injection and improved energy utilisation. The development supports the company’s strategy to expand its alloy, carbon, and special steel production for multiple industrial applications.
Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, headquartered in Kolkata, operates integrated metal manufacturing units across West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh. The company’s total installed metal capacity stands at 15.13 MTPA, supported by 467 MW of captive power generation capacity. Listed in 2021, Shyam Metalics has a market capitalisation of approximately INR 255.54 billion.
